About Allen and Julie Weeks

Allen and Julie Weeks live and work in the St. John community in east Austin, focusing on community development and relationship-building. Allen, a teacher who has been involved in inner-city and mission work for 23 years, first moved into St. John in 2001. After marrying Julie, who had served as a missionary nurse with Mercy Ships in West Africa, the couple began focusing on community development in St. John. Since that time, they have seen a steady growth in leadership among residents of the neighborhood, as well as a decrease in crime.

Allen, a graduate of Washington & Lee and Duke Universities, also works as an advocate for education in Pakistan, and recently finished a Master’s in Asian Studies at the University of Texas. He currently serves as interim director of missions at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Julie has her Master’s in Nursing from UT, and has worked in clinical oncology, organizational development, nursing education, and hospital accreditation for the Seton Hospital Network.

Allen and Julie believe strongly in the ABCD (Asset-Based Community Development) model which involves developing communities through the better connection, utilization and empowerment of existing assets. This leads to sustainable improvement that is owned by the community.

Allen and Julie have two young children, Ashley and Ryan, who are their greatest assets in building relationships in the community.
